Tongue Lane, a generally quiet area set
aside for light industry and a variety of commercial businesses which
are accessed via Fairfield and Queen's Roads. This small industrial
estate is virtually surrounded by striking countryside, with scenic
views looking towards the east.

Industrial Estate
A large tract of land towards the south,
and bordering Cunningdale, an SSSI, has been earmarked for the building
of further Council and Private housing, where it will connect with
dwellings built during the immediate post war period and in the early
nineteen seventies.

Industrial Estate
It may be of interest to note that this
new addition will most likely make travelling along the A6 (Fairfield
road) to gain access into the town, or all points south, south-east and
west from this area, extremely difficult indeed. Accidents and other
blockages have caused access difficulties in the past, whereby it has
often been necessary to travel more than eighteen miles in a round trip
via Whaley Bridge, just to get from central Buxton to Fairfield itself,
less than a mile distant...

Plans for building a bypass to alleviate
this problem, made worse by the heavy volume of traffic that now uses
the main A6 trunk road, were made known as early as 1936. For those
living in Buxton, the demand for a bypass has been a very long standing
one, it seems doubtful that those in charge of granting the
construction of new roads, will likely do anything to solve this
problem.
