The Heart of a Peak District Community
Terry Lamsley, A Buxton Author
|
|
Terry Lamsley began his life in the south of England, but has spent most of his life here in the north..
Over the years along with his family, he nurtured a love for books and
for a while, was the owner of a small, but fascinating second-hand
bookshop here in Buxton. At this time, he developed a talent for
writing short stories and poems.
It was during the early 1990s, that he decided with a friend, Michael
Patey-Ford, to write and self-publish a collection of horror stories.
The twist to this, was that these stories were to feature the town of
Buxton and the surrounding area.
Whilst Terry worked on creating these dark tales of terror, Michael prepared the illustrations that were to accompany the book.
|
August 1993 saw the publication of "Under
The Crust", where upon 500 copies were printed for sale in the town.
The demand for this was more than Terry had expected, and he was
exceptionally pleased to see it selling so well. Nowadays, the first
edition of this book has long been out of print, although copies have
been very highly sought after in the USA.
Terry's first novel gained him the "Best Novella" award. During 1996, Ash-Tree Press
not only published a second edition of this book, but also a new book
that Terry had been working on in the meantime. This held an even more
haunting title, "Conference with the Dead", and unlike his previous
book, not all of its stories used Buxton as their location.
Terry is very modest about his writing talents, including those which
provide him with the inspiration to create such spine-chilling stories.
We at Buxton Online congratulate him on gaining his well deserved
awards and nominations. We also look forward to reading his latest
offering, "Dark Matters", which is again published by Ash-Tree Press.
