Roman find in Buxton

Local celebrity, Knut. E Slack, has found the first real evidence of Roman occupation, in his own back garden.

Always one to turn his hand to anything, Knut has unearthed the partly mummified and almost perfect remains of a Roman soldier, in the course of preparing his garden for growing his prize winning vegetables.

Knut told our reporter, "I couldn't believe what I was unearthing. I was taken aback at first, but then I became fascinated by the things my trowel was exposing." We asked him if there had been any interest from the local museum. "Certainly! When I told them what I had discovered, they offered to help with the recovery work." He continues, "It's wonderful to have such a significant find in my own back yard."

Knut appears to think that such an important find, could indeed be proof, that a Roman Fort did once stand around this particular area of his home in Buxton.

Who knows, we could once again, see another of Knut's publications hit the bookshops before long. We'll bring you the news, as, and when it happens!

It was during the severe winter of 1976, that Buxton had its most honoured guest, a prominent member of the house of commons, to reopen the newly refurbished library building.

In the midst of a very fierce snow storm, our intrepid photographer catches him as he enters the building, to the cheer of the crowd.

It was a day to remember, as the local farming community became excited at the sight of all the latest in farming technology, when it came to this prestigious Buxton Show, earlier this year.

Buxton's Underground Transport System goes from strength to strength

Buxton's Underground !!

There was great excitement earlier this year when, for the first time in the north west, Buxton and the Peak District opened its first rapid underground transit service, much to the delight of the local inhabitants and visitors to the region.

This much praised service was recently extended to take in the local villages of Dove Holes, Peak Forest, Castleton and Cow Dale. Costing a staggering twenty-five billion pounds, it now represents one of the fastest ways to get around the Peakland villages and towns.

The cost of a ticket?

An annual season between Buxton and Bakewell is only £120.

Whilst day rovers are £1.25p and cover the whole of the system.

Worth every penny, say the users!

RUTS, the owners of the system told us
that they have already had a quarter of a million passengers since it opened in March.
