The Columbine Restaurant is a small privately run restaurant in the centre of the Peak District main town of Buxton.


Steve and Kim McNally have run the restaurant for 14 years (after spending many years in guided restaurants and Country House Hotels).


Their aim is to use small local suppliers who can provide them first class produce which they serve in a variety of dishes from the à la carte menu. Full vegetarian menu and daily specials.

During the Christmas and festival seasons (July and August) the menus are added to with a set price table d'hôte menu.
The à la carte menu changes seasonally and all the food is prepared freshly on the premises.

A selection of 7-8 home-made puddings and desserts and a super local / English cheese board are also available. The Restaurant has 2 levels : ground floor and cellar.

Excerpt from the Good Food guide Entry 2007

This popular restaurant up behind the King's Head Hotel may prove hard to find, so ring for directions.

Portions here are large, but the cooking is simultaneously skilled, sensitive and robust.
White fish soup (two shelled crab claws clinging to the rim, excellent fish stock liquor the texture of full cream milk, chunky pieces of cod and haddock and floating fresh herbs) made a fine start for an inspector preceding sweet, tender lamb almost drowning in a good lamb stock infused with rosemary.
Or a large fillet each of moist yet springy sea bass and bream may come on leeks with elaborate decoration of flaky pasty crescents, radish, carrot and raw tomato.

Finish, if you've room, with a large triangle of light, moist-bread-and butter pudding, scented delicately with nutmeg, in a sea of creamy vanilla custard.

May to October 7pm to 10pm (last orders), Monday to Saturday inclusive.
November to April, closed Tuesday, except in December.
Also open (for pre threatre only) on the first two Sundays of the opera festival in July

Pre and After theatre suppers available all year by prior reservation.

Positioned near the top of Hall Bank, opposite the slopes.
2 minutes walk from the Buxton Opera House.
1 minute from the Market Square and 4 minutes from Spring Gardens.

    .Crab and smoked salmon roulade with Atlantic prawns bound in lemon crème fraiche served with herb bread

    .Filo pastry basket filled with a creamed mushroom, shallot and garlic fricassee, topped with crisp strips of pancetta

    .Salad of thinly sliced breast of Gressingham duck breast with marinated fine vegetables and spring onions in a light soy dressing.

    .Sautéed fillet of sea bass served on leek and crayfish tail rissole with chive and saffron sauce.

      Char grilled High Peak rib-eye steak, accompanied by either a classic mushroom bordelaise or au poivre sauce.
