Mission Eight : Antarka + Shore Leave

03 August - 30 November 2006

Day 1 - Shore Leave - Station Dyerma IV
In the ship's Arboretum, Vahl considers the way their previous mission has ended, and how several crew members, including their CMO and CEO have decided to stay on Phorgenica in order to help the population.

As soon as they reach the station, Vahl and Gol’Khar make plans to explore planet Dyerma III and get the best of their shore leave. Meanwhile, in the lounge, June discovers from Max Berg that Lt Cmdr Hadley and Ashley (npcs) have decided to accompany Lt Vaelx (npc) to the USS Yorktown. June also learns that she is supposed to meet a trader on Dyerma III, and secure local delicacies from him, all in the name of a trade agreement between this planet and the Federation.

Although Captain Persson would have been quite happy to spend his shore leave on board the Dark Matter, he receives a pressing invitation from the Dyermian Prime Minister, which he cannot refuse. In the Ministerial Shuttle that is taking him to the property of the PM, Lars realizes that the Dyermian secretary who is accompanying him is doing all she can to seduce him.

Meanwhile, June Craig and Erz Finh (npc) find themselves lost in what appears to be a real labyrinth. The local trader who finally comes to their rescue explains to them that the purpose of this maze is to test the determination of his clients.

On the USS Romania, a Norway class ship en route to Dyerma IV, Counsellor Tyvek meets with Ensign Rawlins (npc), who is also to serve on the USS Dark Matter.

On Station Dyerma IV, Lt Raissa Moonsong reflects on her orders to report to the USS Dark Matter. After a six week Leave of Absence to recover from a painful loss, Raissa is not sure that she is prepared to run a sickbay again.

After a few hours spent in a hotel, Vahl and Gol’Khar head to a remote island on planet Dyerma III. The XO is looking forward to a quiet afternoon on the beach, but the couple is soon disturbed by an uncanny insect formation that appears under the sand.

On Dyerma III, June Craig’s efforts to ‘torture’ the trader who trapped her in his ‘maze’ are cut short when Erz (npc) receive a call pertaining to the misbehaviour of his son during a party at school.

After a customary visit by the Captain, Dr Moonsong books an appointment with the new Counsellor, in the hope of solving her issues with her recent transfer to the Dark Matter.

While Claryx Vahl is busy with ship’s matters, Lt Gol’Khar requests the services of MacDuff (npc) to solve the mystery around the sand creatures encountered on the beach. They discover that by emitting a sonic wave, these insects are capable of displace even the most compact and dense rock strata.

Day 2
While he is getting familiar with his new office, Counsellor Tyvek discovers that two officers have already requested to see him.

Having managed to escape from the persistent Dyermian secretary, Lars Persson heads for the starbase, for a more pleasant meeting with Captain Lecomte (npc). After a detailed technological tour of the station, Lars is informed that Ambassador Bracket (npc) wishes to speak with him urgently. Once in Bracket’s lavish office, the Captain discovers that under the excuse of political reasons, the Diplomat expects him to report directly to his diplomatic department.

During lunch with Gol’Khar, Claryx Vahl realizes that on the whole she has little to no interest for planet Dyerma III and feels more at ease when the DM is away in space.

Upset at his failure to reason Captain Persson, Ambassador Bracket contacts June Craig and manages to convince her to send him regular reports regarding the Dark Matter.

Mission Start
Admiral Davison (npc) briefs Captain Persson about his next mission. The Dark Matter is to investigate the crash site of a Federation vessel that appears to come from the future. Due to the fact that time travel is likely to be involved, the mission has been classified.

After discovering her office and quarters, Lt Moonsong goes to the Arboretum. She is able to relax among the plants, until her commbadge chirps, reminding her of her appointment with the Counsellor.

During the interview, the CMO wonders why she has been assigned to a senior position considering her more recent history. A question that quickly leads to her recent loss and the feeling of guilt harbour. Although, as Lt Tyvek soon discovers, the turmoil faced by Lt Moonsong is far deeper than that.

In the meantime, Lt Megan Revvik, who has just joined the Dark Matter as the Assistant Counsellor settles into her quarters. Once she is ready, she contacts her direct superior, wondering how the two Counsellors will get along, considering that she is only part Vulcan and has not rejected her emotions.

Persson informs his XO of their upcoming mission, making sure that no civilian will become involved in this assignment.

It doesn’t take long for June Craig to feel the air of secrecy that seems to have taken a hold of the Dark Matter. While she is balancing what she should be doing regarding Bracket’s request, she is distracted by Trok. The Ferengi bartender is unhappy at the sudden shore leave cancellation and wants some form of compensation. Menaces and loudly spoken words are uttered, but Trok doesn’t manage to obtain a satisfactory arrangement.

Upon reading the basic specs of their new mission, which is to take them on a glaciated planet, Lt Gol’Khar decides to offer the position as his assistant to Lt (jg) MacDuff (npc).

During the mission briefing, the need to repair the three robots present on planet Antarka are stressed, along with the danger of exploring a class P planet.

A late addition to the Dark Matter crew, CEO Lt Thomas Kent, is on a type 20 shuttle travelling to meet up with his next assignment. This is something that gives him ample time to think of his past, the reasons why he left his home-town, his career at the Daystrom Institute of Technology and his love affairs.

Day 3
With the ship now speeding on its way to Antarka, Captain Persson contemplates the intricacies of their new mission, particularly the absence of Temporal Investigators. If the vessel they were about to investigate had travelled through time, it stood to reason that the Department of Temporal Investigation would be involved. Yet Admiral Davison hadn’t said a word about them.

Unable to sleep, Lt Gol’Khar wakes up at 04.48 and proceeds to have his breakfast, which consists of a mammoth portion of oatmeal. Once his hunger has been quenched, he visits the science labs, occupied by PO2 Pete smith (npc), who is analysing what data they have on planet Antarka.

Counsellor Tyvek reflects on the mystery posed by the USS Ophelia, then contacts his assistant, feeling more than intrigued by Lt Revvik’s double heritage and how she uses her special abilities.

During their meeting Lt Tyvek gauges the Counselling tactics of his Assistant and decides to let her tackle with Lt Kent’s evaluation.

The Dark Matter slows down in order to allow shuttlecraft Argos to board the ship and Captain Persson sends Lt Berg (npc) to check the credentials of the new CEO. As soon as he is on board, Lt Kent befriends Ensign Munro (npc) .When he reaches his quarters and has a chance to check on his department, he is somewhat shocked to discover the DM has a light engineering crew complement, which translates to ten-hour duty shifts.

June Craig is increasingly disgusted by the way the crew avoids her ever since the DM embarked on a so called classified mission. In addition Klam (npc) gives her some concern when his dislike of Counsellors seems to point to a dark past that he is very keen to hide.

While Lt Moonsong is coping with the sudden influx of personnel, she is interrupted by the entry of Lt Kent who is eager to have his physical. However, she soon discovers that he has an ulterior motive as he starts to flirt outrageously with her.

Cmdr Vahl takes advantage of the evening to have a holo session using a program configured to recreate the harsh weather conditions of Antarka. As she explores the fake ice cap, she considers the composition of her forthcoming away team.

At the same time, longing to see Lt Moonsong again, Lt Kent beams her directly into the Arboretum. The following encounter doesn’t go too nicely as the CMO is furious at this blatant breach of her privacy. To his credit the CEO apologises right away by sending a special meal to her quarters.

Late in the evening, June Craig makes another attempt to spend a friendly moment with her staff. However when Klam (npc) menaces to slap Trok (npc) over a derisive comment, she dismisses them and heads for the holodeck.

Day 4
When Claryx Vahl discovers that she is due for an evaluation, she decides to pre-empt Counsellor Tyvek's call and book an appointment. Before going to his office, she revises carefully the answers she will give to him when her life and choice of career are put under the microscope.

Aware that Lt Kent has misused the transporter for personal reasons, Captain Persson lectures the young CEO on Starfleet regulations and the urgency to focus on the present mission.

After spending some time reviewing what is known of planet Antarka, Lt Moonsong leaves sickbay to go the mess hall. There, she meets with Lt Revvik. Despite the young Counsellor's general curiosity about the crew, Raissa refrains from mentioning anything about Lt Kent.

While he is on duty on the Bridge, Lt Gol'Khar detects an object travelling four hours away from the Dark Matter. Further observations reveal not only that it seems to be the USS Ophelia, but that there is also a temporal distortion between the ship itself and the space around it. The Klingon scientist suggests that it could be caused by a temporal rift, and is proven right when the Ophelia suddenly vanishes. A disturbance ensued, interfering with the Dark Matter's warp bubble. Lt Kent promptly corrects the problem and swiftly turns his attention to Ensign Spiers (npc).

Day 5
Lt Tyvek decides to spend some time in the lounge to observe the social interactions of the crew. While he is noting the mannerisms of certain officers as they speak or flirt with other colleagues, he also ponders on the implications of time travel. It seems natural to him that if a first encounter from another time line should arise, he, as a Vulcan, would be the best choice to interact with that person.

Cmdr Vahl confronts June Craig over a civilian petition that she has just received. She feels that Craig has a vested interest in this sudden "need to know" expressed by the civilians. But it turns out that the bar manager has nothing to do with this venture.

As soon as Captain Persson hears of this turmoil among civilians, he meets their leader, professor Dellaert (npc) and tell him in no uncertain terms that there is no way any form of information will transpire regarding the mission they've just embarked on. Once this unpleasant task is done with, Lars makes his way to the science department. But he blacks out while walking along a corridor...
Following his discussion with the Captain, Dellaert (npc) goes to the lounge to brag about what he will do once he is elected as the representative for civilians on the ship.

Day 6
Captain Persson makes an unwilling stay in sickbay. Despite Vahl’s suspicion that he possesses some abilities to perceive abnormal events, Dr Monsoong confirms that there is nothing noticeable in Persson’s condition.

The probe launched by the Science Department reveals that a 151 metre long ship is indeed encased 30 metres deep on planet Antarka.

During his evaluation by Lt Revvik, the CEO tries his usual smooth talking, without much success.

Day 7
Lt Tyvek reflects on the history of time travel witin the Federation and how it can often lead to paradoxes.

Day 8
While she is celebrating her successful nomination as the civilian representative, June Craig is informed by the XO that she will have to consult a Counsellor before taking her new functions

Day 9
As soon as the Dark Matter arrives at Antarka, the senior staff is subjected to a second briefing where they are informed that once the mission is completed, the USS Ophelia will have to be destroyed.

Feeling absolutely bored to be confined within the databanks of the ship's computer, the EMH (npc) contacts the holowaiter for a chat. As it turns out, he has an ulterior motive : to convince Abe to let him impersonate the holowaiter for one hour. Lt (jg) Sertak (npc), who is eager to play his part in the away team, observes the preparation of the shuttle Solar Eclipse.

Concerns spoken by the CMO as to life-forms that might have developed within the Ophelia's core prompts the science department to further their scans. Lt Tomek (npc) locates micro organisms inside the Ophelia on the upper section of the warp core. A piece of information that delays the landing on Antarka.

After a counselling session with Ensign Cade (npc) who is rather nervous about his posting on the DM, Lt Tyvek starts to meditate. However this attempt is cut short by the distinct impression that there is a presence in his office. Wondering whether this is linked to the experience Captain Persson recently underwent, he alerts the Bridge of what has just happened to him.

The Solar Eclipse is finally ready to leave the DM. Piloted by Lt Gol'Khar, it makes a relatively smooth journey to the surface of Antarka. Once they have donned their EVA suits, the teams separate into two groups and venture onto the snow.

After considering what Lt Tyvek has been through, Captain Persson decides that since the Counsellor seems to be attuned to the same apparitions as he did, it is essential that he accompanies the away team once they are ready to explore the Ophelia.

When June returns to the lounge and discovers that her staff have allowed Abe (impersonated by the EMH) to take control of the kitchen, she terminates the holo-waiter.

Gol’Khar’s and Moonsong’s team detect some life -signs. While investigating its source, they are attacked by a small creature. Moments later, the CMO is victim of a strange phenomenon, where she looses track of reality and hears voices.

The Engineers return to the DM with the 1st robot. Vahl and Sertak (npc) pursue their researches and locate the second robot, embedded in the face of a cliff.

With the notion that these temporal anomalies could actually be attempts at communicating with the DM, Tyvek resolves to trigger one such experience, to see what happens next.

Captain Persson decides that the best course of action is to send the EMH (npc) to explore the USS Ophelia.

While the away team returns to the DM with the final robot, MacDuff briefs the very reluctant Medical Program on his new assignment.

Professor Dellaert (npc) attempts to blackmail June Craig with a compromising photo of her. When he realizes that it has no effect on the Bar Manager, he decides to give the photo to Trok (npc)

In sickbay, and under the ever watchful eye of nurse Bendrix (npc), Lt Tyvek tries to communicate with the people behind the temporal disturbances, unfortunately he doesn’t manage to obtain the results he sought.

Feeling that he constantly faces personal danger, the EMH (npc) explores the USS Ophelia. After discovering a navigation centre, a kitchen and an empty life support dormitory, he finally reaches the engine room.

Erz Finh (npc) pays a visit to the lounge, where after a long discussion he convinces June not to reset her holo-waiter.

Trapped within an extra-dimensional realm, Milla Riverdale (npc), Captain of the USS Ophelia, once again tries her best to convey essential information to Counsellor Tyvek.

Lt Gol'Khar pays a visit to engineering and learns from Ensign Spiers (npc) that the two robots found on Antarka have been victim of temporal distortions. This proves once and for all that it was indeed very dangerous for the away teams to remain on the surface of Antarka.

In the engine rooms of the Ophelia, the EMH discovers that the place is built to be entirely operated by giant robotic arms attached to the ceiling. Following his orders, Hereward dutifully collects a sample of the leaked micro-organisms present within the upper section of the warp core.

June Craig has a discussion with Trok (jpc) regarding the recent behaviour of Dellaert (npc). But the Ferengi denies any meeting with the unpalatable professor.

While Counsellor Tyvek is finally managing to receive a message from the Ophelia Captain, the ship from the future suddenly powers up, melting most of the ice that encased it.

Right after Lt Tyvek has reported the information given to him, the Ophelia disappears in a flash of light. Captain Persson, confident that the Ophelia has managed to resume its journey, nonetheless decides to remain a few hours around Antarka to check that the temporal disturbances no longer occur.

- Shore Leave -

Day 9 - En route to Station Dyerma IV
Once Lt MacDuff (npc) has finished reviewing Abe's (npc) programme, June Craig confronts her holo-waiter over what has happened earlier on in the lounge. In his impeccable waiter mode, the hologram explains to her that the EMH felt he was entitled to help out in the lounge, citing the obscure 'Goldilocks enigma' in the process.

Day 12
After sending his report to Admiral Davison (npc), Captain Persson cannot help thinking that all this secrecy around time travel is unnecessary. He firmly believes that the knowledge gained from this technology, if used for the good of everyone, could be most advantageous to all living things. He is however relieved that in the end, he didn't have to destroy the USS Ophelia, as his first orders suggested.

Day 14
While the USS Dark Matter is but 4 days away from Dyerma IV, Cmdr Vahl makes arrangements for the Ophelia micro-organisms to be transferred securely off to the station. She later has a discussion with the EMH about his recent behaviour.

Day 15
In the lounge, Counsellor Tyvek is sipping tea while listening to the usual chatter of the crew. When Lt Moonsong (npc) makes an appearance, the Vulcan decides to turn his attention towards her. Together they speak of the Doctor's decision to leave the DM for the USS Caduceus, a medical ship, and her reasons behind this choice.

Lt Go'Khar goes to the lounge with the firm intention of trying out the chocolate pancakes praised by several crewmembers. He loses his temper when Kam (npc) and June Craig insist that the lounge no longer serve this type of dessert. Instead, and in a bid to calm the Klingon, June serves him replicated pancakes, which happen to taste awful.

Day 16
On Station Dyerma IV, Lt Jack Ryan, Chief of Security, is woken up by an intruder alert. The search leads him and his men towards sickbay. During the ensuing fight, Ryan pretends to be dead to fool the intruder and shoot him down. While he returns to his quarters to have some sleep, two security officers deal with the custody of the alien.

Day 17
Trok's eagerness to begin his shoreleave convinces June that he is definitely up to something, but she decides to remain quiet about it.

Claryx Vahl has to inform Gol'Khar that they won't be sharing their shore leave this time, since she has other commitments. Unfortunately for her, they are linked with the arrival of some Betazed relatives. Although he is disappointed, Gol'Khar still visits Dyerma IV. There, he meets with the Garann sisters (Klingons), who insist on spending the afternoon with him.

As soon as he steps onto the Starbase, Captain Persson is accosted by Ben Tyning (npc) a merchant Captain whose life he saved some years ago. But Lars can't remember anything about him. They nonetheless go to a restaurant to try and revive his memory. At the end of the meal, someone offers them drinks, which happened to be drugged.

Vahl meets with her relatives and discovers that they are about to open an exclusive hotel on the Starbase, hoping that she will offer them some involvement.

Tyvek goes through a training session on the holodeck, but is rather disappointed by his performance. After a video chat with his wife, where he learns that his son is about to enrol in Starfleet Academy, the Counsellor decides to go to the Starbase to acquire a new training program.

Lt Jack Ryan is enjoying a rare period of rest in his quarters when he is disturbed by a presence, affecting to be from a Q entity that has taken a sudden interest in Jack's life. However, when moments later Max Berg (npc) calls at his door, it becomes clear that the entity is nothing but a figment of the Chief's imagination.

June Craig takes advantage of a trip to planet Dyerma III to ask Erz Finh (npc) about the mother of his son, and more importantly whether he expects her to make a come back into his life.

Lt Gol'Khar carries on with his plan to get the two Garann sisters completely drunk. It is a total success and he discovers that they are after a Klingon Captain named Mog'vir, who has been charged with acts of treason, murder and cowardice by the High Council.

Captain Persson and Ben Tyning (npc) slowly regain consciousness in what appears to be a bunk in a Klingon vessel. The Klingons now being allies, the two captives can only surmise that they are at the hand of a group of renegades. Before they have time to elaborate on a possible escape plan a huge Klingon opens the door and take Tyning away.

While Cmdr Vahl is enjoying the comfort of a lavish room at the hotel now run by her cousins, she receives an urgent call from the Dark Matter. Lt Lomax (npc) informs her that Captain Persson cannot be reached. A situation the comm officer was made aware of after Ambassador Braket (npc) failed to speak with Persson.

After making a reasonable profit thanks to a fruitful transaction on planet Dyerma III, Trok pays a visit to the starbase to spend his ill gotten gains and enjoy his shore leave. However he cannot get Craig out of his mind and the potential consequences of his recent actions gives him stomach aches.

Gol'Khar wakes up in a hotel room, and promptly starts clearing the remnants of his recent drinking session from his head. He has barely taken two sips of his Raktajino when Cmdr Vahl contacts him about the disappearance of Captain Persson.

On Ben's return to their 'cell', Lars learns that the ship involved in the accident where the two men first met belonged to their Klingon captors. Now these Klingons are seeking vengeance. When the two captives are given some food, Lars uses a ploy to make it looks like he has stabbed his comrade in order to fool their guard.
Cmdr Vahl is investigating the disappearance of Captain Persson. She discovers that her CO had last been seen in a restaurant, where he supposedly got drunk and was carried away by two so-called friends. Now convinced that Persson is no longer on the Starbase, she returns to the DM.

Determined to buy a new training program, Lt Tyvek pays a visit to a software shop on Dyerma IV. Unfortunately for him, the vendor corrupts his selected choice: " Standard Combat Training and Exercise" with the newest edition of "Vulcan Love Slave". The ill-fated transaction is interrupted when Cmdr Vahl calls for all the heads of Department to report to the DM Bridge.

Feeling dejected after Finh's sudden summons to the DM, June Craig sulks on the balcony of her hotel room. Seeing her, a group of xenophobic Dyermians throw a stone at her, which hits her squarely on her face. Unable to see to her injury herself, June asks to be beamed back urgently to sickbay. As soon as he sees her, Hereward sedates her.

Lars and Ben manage to leave their cell and progress carefully to the Bridge of the ship were they have been abducted. Armed with their guard's disruptor they confront the Klingon responsible for the situation they are in. When the renegade leaps at him, Lars steps aside and hits him hard with his own weapon. He then tries to contact the Dark Matter.

Having received Persson's hail, the Dark Matter promptly goes to his rescue and beams him back onboard, along with the renegade leader, which Lt Gol'Khar recognises instantly as being Mog'vir (npc), the traitor that is wanted by the High Council

Day 18
Captain Persson is forced to confront Ambassador Braket (npc), a meeting that proves unpleasant on both sides. Braket insists once again to have one of his diplomats assigned to the DM. And, according to a report he received, it is June Craig who started the incident on D3 the previous day.

Cmdr Vahl meets again with Lt Cmdr T'Mey (npc). The Starbase's XO informs her that the intruder alert they recently suffered bears no connection with the current events. According to her the culprit is nothing more than a drug addict, acting out of sheer despair. The way Lt Ryan (npc) (then Chief of Security of D4) conducted the arrest alarms Vahl.

With the various developments occurring on the DM, plus Dyerma III and IV, Counsellor Tyvek considers that his shore leave is officially over. He sets out to have sessions with June Craig, Captain Persson and Ben Tyning (npc)
After a painful wait, Lt Gol'Khar is relieved to announce to the Garann sisters (npc) that Captain Persson has accepted to release Mog'vir (npc) into their custody. In their traditional manner, they promise to be back for the Klingon scientist.

While Trok (npc) is considering whether or not he should give in to temptation and spend the rest of his latinum in a casino, Dellaert (npc) tries to convince him to give a false statement regarding Craig's attack on Dyerma 3.

June Craig and Counsellor Tyvek meet in the holodeck for a quiet chat about diplomacy and stubborn EMHs.

Captain Persson takes advantage of a respite in his day to review the latest reports. He is contacted by Admiral Davison (npc) who informs him that he will soon receive the specs for the Dark Matter’s next mission.

When Cmdr Vahl decides to pay a visit to Lt Jack Ryan (npc), she discovers that their Chief of Security has not only resigned, but also that he is rushing to DSO 316 on some urgent business. Later, Vahl has a word with June Craig, asking her to keep a low profile during the misunderstanding between Dyerma 3 and the USS Dark Matter.

As soon as he has been contacted by Cmdr Vahl, Lt Tyvek rushes to intercept Lt Ryan (npc) before the Security Officer has a chance to leave the Dark Matter. Unfortunately, despite the presence of Lt Berg (npc), the encounter doesn't go too well and Ryan ends up in sickbay.

Gol'Khar and MacDuff meet in the lounge at lunch time. While talking of their respective relationships, the Klingon scientist gets carried away and eats the Scot's dessert.

Meanwhile, Vahl prefers to isolate herself from the lounge's crowd and take advantage of her time to catch up with the latest news from the scientific community.

Day 19
Following the recent upset on Dyerma 3, Captain Persson is contacted by the planet's Prime Minister. Although the Minister apologizes for what has happened, it becomes sorely clear to Persson that Ambassador Braket (npc) has a lot to answer to in this affair. This is why the Captain decides to alert Admiral Davison (npc) on the situation. While viewing images of the starbase on his view screen, Lars is distracted by the sight of a nearby ship that seems to shift from one visual display to another.

Because of an old reflex that made Trok (npc) run away when he was being called by a security officer, the Ferengi finds himself accused of robbery. Fortunately, his name is soon cleared, but it is not thanks to June Craig, who was quite happy to let him rot in his cell.

It is a long day for PO2 Morag McRath (npc), who has to monitor the arrival of new supplies for the DM. However her evening is enlivened when Lt Sertak (npc) receives a large container, originating from a long deceased relative.
While visiting the starbase, Lt Gol'Khar meets with Lt Jon Gregson (npc), Chief of Science on Dyerma IV. Their discussion converges on one peculiar starship docked at the starbase. Although Gregson has been advised not to mention its presence, the science officer can't resist talking about it.

Cmdr Vahl joins Gol'Khar and his counterpart. Together they to go to a science deck to have a look at the strange ship. Unfortunately its kaleidoscopic colours have a dangerous hypnotic effect on Vahl and Gregson, forcing Gol'Khar to put an end to their viewing session.

After a full day in sickbay, Lt Ryan (npc) is as restless as ever. Lt Tyvek and the EMH (npc) still cannot make head or tail of his story. However, fate offers them the answer they need when the former Chief of Security suddenly vanishes into thin air, giving credence to his tale about the Q that had allegedly contacted him.

On Dyerma IV, June Craig and Trok (npc) are accosted by a meddlesome Nausicaan. Despite the Ferengi's urge to run away from the situation, June holds her ground and succeeds in making the intruder accept that she is not interested in him.

Day 21
Captain Persson is contacted again by Admiral Davison (npc). This time he receives his new orders: the Dark Matter is to explore a barren sector some 18 light years away from the starbase. Federation scientists believe that a space phenomenon registered by their probes could very well prove to be a wormhole.

A senior staff meeting follows, where after discussing what little spec they have regarding their new assignment, Ryan's disappearance is discussed.

Just three hours before the DM is due to leave the starbase, the USS Nova brings a new transfer for the norway class starship. Ensign Marinu Lithara, a tactical officer who arrives with an unexpected gift from Starfleet: a modified type 11 shuttlecraft. As soon as he is onboard, Lithara reports to the Bridge and take his shift.

Later in the afternoon, Vahl and Gol'Khar meet in a science lab, where the Klingon expresses his dislike for their new mission. According to him it will be an excruciatingly boring errand. Yet, as Claryx points out, what data they have at the moment truly indicates that the source of x-ray radiation that they perceive is the signature of a proper wormhole.
Cmdr Vahl is asked by Captain Persson to see Ben Tyning (npc) off of the ship. The civilian merchant has over extended his welcome on board and it is by far time that he leaves. As soon as the transport procedure is done, the Chief Transporter asks to be excused, so that he can visit the main shuttlebay and have a look at the StarBlazer.
