USS Dark Matter - Logs

October 2005 - Post Selection (2)

ON: Boarding Party

Day: 10 - Time: 00.20
Hadley wanted to grin, but kept his customary, deadly serious frown on his face. This new Helm Officer certainly had some nerve, no doubt about that. He glanced at Captain Persson, but his commander merely looked back at him, nodding his head slightly to give him permission to make the call. Hadley thought he saw a smirk on the other man's face.

Hadley turned back to Lieutenant Vaelx. "All right. It is your speciality, eh? And it means I don't have to leave one of my men behind on the shuttle if we do have to board. Captain, with your permission?"

Persson waved a hand. "Assemble your team, Lieutenant. Lieutenant Vaelx can join you in the shuttle bay as soon as Gol'Khar has finished his modifications."

Robert saluted the Captain, cast what he hoped looked like a fierce glare at Vaelx, and jogged to the turbolift. As soon as the doors closed, however, he had to let out the laugh he had been holding in. Quite a show. At least it'd be interesting.

He tapped his comm badge, "Lieutenant Berg?"

Max (npc) sounded alert. "What's up boss man?"

"I need crew for a shuttle mission. Pull Sokolov (npc), Rogers (npc), and Husky (npc) from their patrol positions and tell them to report to the armory on the double, throw in a couple of our reserves to fill the gaps. You're going to be in charge of ship's security while I'm out on this little jaunt."

To his credit, Max didn't sound surprised. "Righto, sir. Pulling those three, and yourself, is stretching our personnel, sir. We're not going to have much of a reserve force to deploy in the event of an emergency."

Hadley grunted. "What's new? This isn't that big of a ship Max, you know that. You're just going to have to shuffle people around a bit. Make sure we've got good security at the critical stations and, if we need to, arm some of the crew. I know Lieutenant Orthis keeps that non-regulation weapons locker in Engineering that we always happen to 'miss' on inspections, so just follow his example. We've got enough hand phasers to arm just about everybody. I'm keeping you onboard for the very reason that I am worried. Stay in the transporter room and you handle any problems personally. I'll give you a pat on the back once I get back."

Max laughed. "Fair enough. I'm actually up at the Honor Guard Armory on Deck 5, just making sure the couple of phasers we usually keep up here are secure. But Sokolov, Rogers, and Husky will meet you on Deck 14. I'll be done shortly."

Hadley smiled. "The Honor Guard Armory? Well, I'm impressed by your attention to detail. I don't think I would have bothered myself. It's not like we ever use it. Either way, good luck. I'll talk to you shortly."

Hadley closed the link and stepped out of the turbolift onto Deck 14. He made his way down the hall until he reached the security offices. Sokolov and Rogers were already there, and Hadley could hear the pounding feet of someone running down the hall behind him. He'd wager that was Husky.

Hadley waited until the running man arrived, who was indeed Ensign Husky, and typed in the code for the armory door. "All right gentlemen. We're the Captain's back up plan. Everyone takes a Compression Rifle and a Federation issue knife. And we're suiting up. Hazard suits and breather units. We don't know what the air is going to be like on one of their ships. Sokolov, grab one of those Pulse Disruptors. But you do NOT fire that thing unless I tell you to, got it?"

Sokolov gave Hadley a toothy grin. He'd been bugging Hadley about getting to use the large, overpowered phaser cannon for weeks. "You can count on me, sir. You just show Sokolov where to shoot."

Hadley rolled his eyes. Russians. "Everyone grab a hand phaser too. And bring along a couple of extras. Lieutenant Gol'Khar will be onboard to operate the special equipment and we've got a new hot shot pilot. Husky, you'll carry the two extra weapons until we're onboard, then you'll hand them over to Lieutenant Vaelx and Gol'Khar. Make sure you get them back afterwards, too. Are we clear?"

The three men saluted and nodded.

Hadley sighed. "All right then. Let's suit up. We're in the shuttle bay in 15 minutes. So let's move with a purpose."
