ON : Another Day
Date: 238202.06
Time: 08.20 Scene: Conference Hall, Deck 5
Algernon Braket(npc) an important man among diplomats, was a name
that seemed vaguely familar to Lars, as he sat at the head of the
large oval table, contemplating the arrival of the dignitaries that
he was to transport to Starbase Dyerma IV in the Hydrozene Star
System. Of course, he thought to himself, he could be wrong, but
there again it wasn't a name that could easily be forgotten.
He glanced around the spacious room, his eyes taking in its clean
sparkling surfaces and orderly appearance, a place that was
certainly well suited to the demands that would be made upon it by
the group of dignitaries who would soon be arriving on board the DM.
A brief smile indicated his approval, whereby he made a mental note
to thank the Ops department for their timely efforts.
Lars momentarily thought about a previous diplomatic encounter, one
that had involved a number of dignitaries he had come across at an
earlier date in his career. This time, things had not gone so well,
despite all that he had done to avoid a conflict. He hoped that he
had learnt a lesson from his mistakes, and on this occasion,
everything would run a whole lot smoother and without any incidents
developing for whatever reason.
He was suddenly interrupted in his train of thought by the sound of
his commlink bursting into life. +Tap+ "Persson here." He replied,
wondering what it was that someone wanted from him.
+"I'm sorry to interupt you at this time Captain, but I need to
advise you of the arrival of the JAG officer, a certain Lt Aspinal
(npc), Sir."+ Lt Kriss Lomax(npc) announced in a tone that sounded
quite apologetic.
"Very well, lieutenant. Inform lieutenant Aspinal that he is to join
me in the Conference Room on Deck Five. Persson out." +Tap+
Lars remained silently contemplating this new name. Aspinal wasn't
one that he was familiar with at all. But then, he wasn't overly
familiar with anyone coming from the JAG's office, if such a thing
was even possible. When their services were called upon, it usually
meant trouble for someone, and this went against what he understood
as being a smooth and well defined operational mode aboard a ship,
any ship for that matter. A few minutes passed and the main doors to
the conference room opened, and in walked the rather stiff figure of
who he at once assumed to be the JAG officer.
"Good morning, Captain. I am lieutenant Aspinal of the Judge
Advocate Generals office. I understand that you have been expecting
me, Sir." He said, his gaze holding with that of Lars for a second
or two, then relaxing and looking around the room.
"Good morning Lieutenant. I have indeed been expecting you. Please
take a seat." Lars said, indicating the chair to his right. Briefly,
he looked his visitor up and down, noting another 'stuffed shirt',
as he had come to recognise them. Officers brimming with authority,
but lacking any real moral fibre or backbone when it came to dealing
with other people.
Aspinal carefully laid his slim black case down onto the shiny table
top, obviously taking care not to mar its surface, if at all
possible, in the Captain's presence. Opening it with just as much
care, he removed a large PADD and set it squarely in front of him on
the table before he spoke. "Captain, as you are aware, we have been
presented with a rather difficult situation." He said, clearing his
throat and apologizing for it. "Sorry, Sir."
Lars relaxed and wondered where this was heading, since from where
he was sat, the only difficult situation appeared to be one that had
been invented by the JAG office. "Difficulty?" Lars enquired.
"Well, as you know, the mystery subject that was involved in the
recent problems on Outpost 316 has been spirited away, in fact taken
from under your nose, Sir. This, well, it makes my job a rather
difficult one. I have been asked to look into the roles played by a
number of people, from both this ship and the Outpost, that resulted
in a dangerous situation arising from it, one that has involved a
number of personal attacks on both civilian and Federation
personnel, which resulted in injuries being sustained." Aspinal
explained, seemingly becoming a trifle hot under the collar as each
second passed by.
"Can I get you something to drink, lieutenant? A glass of water,
perhaps?" Lars suggested, the ends of his mouth curling up slightly
in the trace of a smile.
"If you wouldn't mind, Sir." Aspinal replied, getting hotter by the
minute.
Lars walked over to one of the room's replicators and ordered a
glass of cool refreshing water. Once the order had been retrieved,
he took it across to the JAG officer and set it down in front of him
on the table and sat down in his seat again.
"Thank you, Captain." He said, and taking the cool glass in his left
hand, he lifted it quickly to his lips and took a couple of long
gulps and sighed as the water slowly did its work. Placing the
almost empty glass down on the table, Aspinal continued with his
account. "We have your deposition on record, but I have been unable
to secure the depositions of either Lt Cmdr Jamaica N'we(npc), your
former ship's Doctor, or Jiasha Talhandi(npc), who I believe was a
civilian teacher on board this ship." He said, while at the same
time seemingly searching for something on his PADD.
"Our former CMO sustained an inoperable injury while on the Outpost
yesterday. In order to obtain the best of medical help, both she,
and the teacher are now speeding along on their way to Earth in a
Federation Starship as we speak. I can assure you that you will find
full details regarding this incident included with my deposition.
Further more, for any other involvement in what has happened during
the past twenty-four hours, you will need to check with the
Outpost's Captain for clarification on the matter. As for the
alien's sudden and unexpected disappearance, I must refer you to the
full explanation given in my mission summary and deposition. As I
clearly stated, we were dealing with a race of people who were far
more advanced than we had thought them to be. It transpires that
they were not prepared to negotiate on the surrender of the alien
known as Velisa(npc)." Lars said, leaning slightly towards the JAG
officer.
"Now, unless you want me for anything else, I really need to prepare
this ship for departure to sector fifteen?" Lars carefully explained
while keeping focussed on the officer's flustered behaviour. "Of
course, we have room enough for you onboard should you deem it
necessary to continue with your enquiries? Although I feel that it
would be only fair to advise you that it may be some time before you
would be able to return from this sector, lieutenant." He calmly
added.
"No, no, I... I... I think that I have just about everything I shall
need for now, Sir." Aspinal replied, a blank appearance showing on
his face as he quickly thrust the PADD back inside his slim black
case again. "Thank you for your valuable time and assistance,
Captain. It is much appreciated in my line of enquiry." He said as
he rose from his chair and quickly moved towards the exit. "I won't
keep you a minute longer, Sir." This said, the JAG officer hastily
retreated, almost tripping over himself in the process, but leaving
much more quickly than he had at first entered the room.
Lars nodded his head from side to side and tut-tutted. Well, he
thought to himself, one down and a few more to go. What a day it
looked as though it was going to be, he considered, as he too, arose
from his own chair. Once again, his commbadge beeped into life.
+Tap+ "Persson here." He said.
+"Captain, the dignitaries will arrive at the main shuttlebay in ten
minutes, Sir."+ Lomax informed him.
"I'm on my way, lieutenant. Persson out."
