ON : Explanations
Day: 06
Time: 07.20
Scene: Main Engineering
Tom Kent sat by the simulator in Main Engineering with two of his
engineers. Ensign Singh looked intently over the command console as
Ensign Spiers adjusted the models.
"…as you can see there was a 217% increase in fluid density between
14.21.38 and 14.22.09," Ensign Spiers paused and pointed accordingly,
"Furthermore, there was no temporal slippage, and warp field integrity
fell by 3.2%."
Singh looked up from the console, "Are you suggesting that we're being
slipstreamed away from the anomaly? Could the anomaly be causing a
negative slipstream?"
"It's possible," responded Spiers, "What do you think, chief?"
Kent shook his head, "It's possible, but don't explain them temporal
slippage. I'm a be more interested in the 217% bump in fluid density," he
looked at Singh and Spiers, "Y'all got any more of them ideas?"
Singh closed his eyes, "Perhaps the decrease in warp field integrity
is related?"
"Computer, adjust model by 2% and 2.5% across X- and Z- axes
appropriately," Spiers watched as the model's warp field adjusted
itself to a normal distribution, "That's it!"
Singh and Kent looked at each other, "We spun?" asked Singh.
"No," Kent replied, "That there don't make no sense; stress and
structural integrity levels are way too high for us to have entered a
warped spin."
"Computer, adjust model for standard gravitational constant G," Spiers
requested. There was no deviation from the current model. "What the…?"
Singh jumped at the opportunity, "Computer, adjust model to original
warp-field distortion, and then adjust model for standard
gravitational constant G."
The display showed the original model, and then the model with the
3.2% correction.
"We done didn't spin," Kent said, "The universe did," he tapped his
communicator, "Lt. Kent to bridge."
"This is the Captain speaking," was Persson's response, "Come in Lt.
Kent."
"Cap'n, we've a workin' theory to explain the disturbance," began
Kent, "We be conjecturin' that the Roman Ring we done experienced was
caused by a spacetime overlap in the space-time continuum."
"Do you have an explanation for this disturbance lieutenant?"
"No sir," Kent replied, "We'll know more once we got information back from
them there probe, cap'n. I'll keep you posted."
"Good work lieutenant, Persson out."
