ON : Shockwave

Day: 04
Time: 12.25 Scene: DyermaIV In Cpt Lecomte's Main Office

Expect the unexpected, a saying that Captain Lars Persson has thought of and said more than once in his career. On this occasion, where he had been asked to call in and meet with Alexandre Lecomte on the huge Starbase, he felt that it was indeed unexpected and certainly not expected.

Being asked to call in on the Starbase while on shore leave, was a pleasure that Lars felt quite happy to take part in. It wasn't always that he had had the opportunity to have a chat with an old friend, so when the call came through, now less than ten minutes ago, he had jumped at the opportunity. Lars felt that he needed to relax a little, especially following the revelation of the MRT'lag probe and its quest. However, unbeknownst to Lars, the chat wasn't quite what he had expected it to be, as he soon found out.

"I'm sorry that our meeting is not under more cheerful terms." Alex remarked as Lars began to drink the hot coffee he had been offered. "I've asked you to meet me here because of a growing situation, one that will sadly affect us all, eventually." He explained.

"That's really okay, Alex. It is still a pleasure to meet with you after all this time, regardless of the situation. Tell me, what is it that seems to be troubling you at this time?" Lars enquired of his friend.

"I have had some visitors and, well I believe that you know them very well indeed." Alex said as he reached forward to touch his computer screen. "Lieutenant, please ask our guests to come in." He said, sitting back in his chair as soon as the message was acknowledged.

From outside the office, Lars caught the sound of heavy footfalls and raised voices just before the door slid open, shortly the Starbase's guests entered. The sight of two Klingons caught him by surprise initially, but seconds later, he recognised the Garann sisters, Shaldhar and Tamyeshi. As soon as they saw who was in the office as they entered, they relaxed instantly.

"Captain Persson, it is a pleasure to meet with you again, just the man we've come to see in fact." Shaldhar said as she walked to where he had been previously sat. "We bring news, but unfortunately it is considered to be of a dire nature. And as it will no doubt eventually affect us all, we thought it best that you learn of what we have discovered. Um, not forgetting you Captain Lecomte." She added so as not to insult the Starbase Captain.

"Won't you take a seat, Ladies?" Alex suggested out of politeness.

"You hear that Tamyeshi, he called us ladies. Perhaps that we should try to convince him that we're first and foremost, warriors?" Shaldhar told her sister in jest.

"I didn't mean any offence..." Alex began.

"Do not ruin the moment Captain, we fully understood your meaning." Tamyeshi remarked with the typical deep guttural laugh of a Klingon woman. Then the sisters sat down in the chairs offered to them and accepted the drinks brought in for their consumption. "Blood wine! You do us a great honour, Captain."

"Now that everyone is here, may I suggest that we get on with the problem arising?" Alex suggested as he looked across at the sisters.

"Of course, Captain, time for the pleasantries later. Ha! Ha!" Shaldhar said with a cheerful but loud laugh. "One of our deep space science reconnaissance vessels picked up some subspace messages during its voyages. Unfortunately, it was unable to decipher the language being used. Even with several days of communications to work with, they were still unable to make sense of what was being said." She told everyone present.

"How far away was this discovery made?" Lars enquired with great interest.

"More than forty thousand light years distant, Captain. It was much further out than the position of our vessel, which as it happens, only discovered the communication by pure chance." Shaldhar explained.

"But where does this involve us?" Lars asked her.

"Our vessel spent months trying to break their communications, and in the end, they paid with their lives. Eight hundred crew perished, and all without there having been a true battle."

"These invaders were without honour." Tamyeshi snarled defiantly and spitting on the floor.

"Perhaps you should take a look at the recording that was made right up to the destruction of the Klingon vessel, Lars. It was recorded some time ago." Alex suggested as he leaned forward to touch his computer screen. Then he turned it so that Lars could see what had happened.

The image was that of the bridge of a Klingon vessel and its duty crew members. The sound of its Captain's voice was loud and clear. The universal translator made it easier for Lars to understand what was going on.

+"Why have they have fired upon us? They will pay dearly for their act of cowardice. Bring us about, helm. put our bow in towards the energy source. Shields at maximum. Get ready to fire photon torpedoes, full spread. Bring up the cloaking device. We may be able to fool the guidance device."+ He shouted as everyone began to work feverously at their stations.

At the centre of the Klingon vessel's forward view screen, everyone could see a bright pinpoint of intense light, the size of which was becoming larger by the minute. The Klingon Captain spoke again.

+"Fire a spread of torpedoes. Let's see if we can destroy this threat. How far away are the intruders?"+

+"They are still fourteen-thousand light years away, Captain. There is no way that we can reach them with our weapons systems." The Ops officer stated.

The members of the bridge crew looked at each other as the mass of energy grew in size. Glancing at his console, the Ops officer could see that the ball of energy was still more than a million kilometres distant. And it was huge...

The Captain watched in amazement as his torpedoes were simply absorbed by the ball of energy. Then, all of a sudden, there was a massive detonation which lit up the screen completely, then seconds later, nothing but the darkness of space and the stars beyond.

+"Captain, I detected another power source just moments before the thing exploded."+

+"What was it?"+ Their Captain asked him.

+"I do not know. It was there, and then it was gone."+

+"Captain...."+ The main science officer shouted. +"There is a shockwave heading for us, it's way off the scale. We'll never get away from it in time."+ He said as he gave in to his fate.

Moments later, the image of the Klingon vessel's bridge vanished. For a while, everyone sat in the Captain's office on the Starbase was rendered speechless. They had witnessed what they thought was impossible. Where the ball of energy had failed to destroy the Klingon vessel, the resulting shockwave, induced by the destruction of the ball of energy, appears to have destroyed the ship completely. Lars was the first to speak.

"Why do you think that our Quadrant may be in danger, Shaldhar?" He asked one of the Klingon sisters who was staring at him.

"We have come to the conclusion that whatever attacked the ball of energy, has now gone off towards whatever fired it." She replied. "The aliens themselves may come in search of that which destroyed its energy weapon. It is logical." Just then, her comm badge sounded.

A muffled voice said something out of earshot to the others.

"Very well, we'll be there directly, Shaldhar out."+Tap+

"We're sorry, but it seems that a friend is in need of our help. We will return. Tamyeshi." She said nodding to her sister. Seconds later and the sisters were gone.
